Module Authors
The development of the tool will depend upon volunteer authors. Volunteers from the AAMD,
ASTRO, and the AAPM will author the modules. The first edition of the tool will be authored
over three years.
Each session will have a session title and will contain a list of instructional objectives.
The module authors assisted by an Educational Consultant at Stanford will develop the titles
and instructional objectives of the sessions. One primary author will be responsible for the
module, but can be joined by as many coauthors as is practical. The authors will be primarily
responsible for developing the instructional objectives, exam questions, and the course
material in the form of text and graphics. The training sessions will be written using the
commercial computerized training software called WebCT. The training sessions will consist of
approximately 20 Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) pages in a path followed by approximately 20
self-test quiz questions. The authors will be expected upload at minimum the material for about
150 HTML pages per year for three years to the
Project Manager
at Stanford who will be responsible for getting the material converted to HTML pages in a path
specified by the author within the program.
In addition, the author will write exam questions related to the material. The Educational
Consultant will assist in the development of valid questions. The questions will be uploaded
into a directory. Exam questions can be rotated periodically into the pre-quiz and final
exam.
The goal of the project is to author approximately 8,000-10,000 HTML pages and approximately
1000-1250 questions during the 5 years of the grant. In return for authoring a module, a
volunteer will have access to all the modules in the final program. Thus an author's time will
be leveraged at about 20-to-one. Most frequently the project manager will communicate with the
authors by telephone and email. A
Psychometrician
will analyze the responses to exam questions once the tools are being used in order to
determine the reliability.
The authors will meet together just prior to the AAPM annual meeting with the Stanford Staff to attend a Workshop.
